Sleeping In

With Pavlok, you can quit hitting the snooze and stop sleeping in!

We've all done it.  In our sleep deprived lifestyles, we'd give anything just to sleep in a few more minutes.  So we hit the snooze button when our alarms go off in the morning.  Some of us more than others.

Hitting the snooze button is actually doing us more harm than good.  The few minutes that you gain sleeping from hitting the snooze button aren't high quality minutes of sleep.  If anything, they make you more tired.  The brain enters the sleep cycle again when the snooze button is hit and is thus more likely to be in a deeper portion of the sleep cycle the next time the alarm goes off.

The CDC lists reasons such as broad scale societal factors such like round-the-clock access to technology and work schedules as part of the reason we are so sleep deprived.  The scarier portion is that people experiencing sleep insufficiency are also more likely to suffer from chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as from cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.  Just being too groggy alone can cause driving to mimic that of a drunk driver.

So in general, it is important that we as a society get more sleep.  But if we can't, we can avoid being as groggy by NOT hitting the snooze button.  As hard of a habit as that may be to break, it can be done!

Pavlok will help you quit the snooze button in no time!

With Pavlok, you can set the time, the stimuli used to wake up, and the stimuli strength. The stimuli that can be used are vibration, beep, and zap. The alarm is triggered and cycles through a set of 3 stimuli. When the alarm triggers, the first stimulus goes off. There is a delay before the next stimulus happens. During this delay the Pavlok will blink yellow to alert the user that the Pavlok is in “alarm mode."  You can choose to start with an easier stimulus, such as vibration, and only choose the zap as the third stimulus if you are not getting out of bed.  Once you are up, you can turn off the alarm by holding the button on the Pavlok for 5 seconds or pressing a button in the app. When the you turn off the app, the Pavlok vibrates quickly 3 times in a row and the Pavlok can now be used regularly.

Why does this work better than a regular alarm?  The Pavlok can be set so that if you do not get out of bed on the first alarm, you receive a zap.  This will quickly train the brain to wake up upon the first alarm in order to avoid a zap for staying in bed.  The brain develops an aversion to hitting snooze and not waking up right away causing you to no longer crave those extra minutes in bed.
